IL 20 LUGLIO A PESCARA TORNA IL CONCERTONE ‘LA NOTTE DEI SERPENTI’

On July 20th, at the Stadio del Mare in Pescara , ‘La Notte dei Serpenti’ returns, the great concert conceived and directed by maestro Enrico Melozzi to pay homage to and celebrate the culture and musical tradition of Abruzzo . Today, at the initiative of senators Guido Liris and Etelwardo Sigismondi , the second edition was presented in the Senate. The event will be dedicated to Stefano Mancini , an audio technician who recently passed away and who worked on the first edition of the initiative.

Big names from the Italian and international music scene will take the stage, such as Colapesce and Dimartino , Coma_Cose , Giovanni Caccamo , Noemi and Umberto Tozzi . The evening will be presented by Andrea Delogu .

“Abruzzo is rediscovering the musical tradition that has always represented the popular culture of our territory – says Marco Marsilio , president of the Abruzzo Region –. The Night of the Serpents, also thanks to the public success obtained with the broadcast of the event on Rai 1, is an element that allows us to relive and pass on our traditions through the revisitation of the music that has marked the history of our towns, of the various moments of agriculture and pastoralism, and of the celebrations connected to them”.

“The great success of the first edition, which attracted more than 10,000 people live and about 1 million viewers thanks to Rai, is an important signal – explains Melozzi -. Celebrating and exploring the beauty of our songs and traditions is essential to give back to Abruzzo that cultural, musical and folkloric identity that seemed to have been lost. After years spent studying popular music from all over the world – from Spain to Southern Italy, from Eastern Europe to Latin American and Cuban music – I feel ready to face this immense challenge”.

The event is organized in collaboration with Vuscichè , a renowned sustainable brand that recovers ancient fabrics and transforms them: the musicians will wear the clothes made by the brand to highlight the Abruzzo culture and the art of tailoring.

The Serpenti Orchestra is composed of Marco Dirani (bass), Nicola Costa , Guido Della Gatta , Alessandro Santacaterina (guitars), Salvatore Mufale (piano), Giovanni Antonicelli (piano and sequences), Roberto Spina , Carola Avola (drums), Alberto Barsi (electric guitar), Carmelo Colajanni , Christian Di Marco (various wind instruments) and Danilo Dipaolonicola (accordion).

are the 28 singers selected through the call launched by Melozzi and have joined the choir of the Orchestra dei Serpenti already composed of Anna Azzola , Angela Cantoresi , Cinzia Cantoresi , Elena Cicconi , MonicaDezzi , Giuseppe Di Cesare , Cristiana Falconi , Franco Palumbo , Teresa Scalese , Letizia Serpentini and Martina Zecca .

The popular songs will also be accompanied by choreographies created by the dance troupe composed of Lusymay Di Stefano , Laura Esposito , Ilaria Frazzetto , Gabriella Caruso , Michela Caruso , Federico Mella and Francesco Rosario Zappalà .

The collaboration with Arca , the Regional Association of Abruzzo Choirs, will allow the greatest number of choirs to be involved. To give the name to this initiative, Melozzi was inspired by the cult of San Domenico , which finds its culmination in the ancient rite of the “Festa dei Serpari” in Cocullo ( L’Aquila ), identifying the snake as an exotic, powerful, mysterious, fascinating and attractive symbol. The scenography benefits from the collaboration of the artist Marco Lodola .
